Optimising the Conditions for Wound Healing.

- Published 30th May 2018

An innovator in advanced wound dressings, LQD® Spray introduces a revolutionary spray-on
primary dressing for the external, local treatment of chronic wounds (such as venous leg
ulcers and diabetic foot ulcers), acute wounds and superficial partial thickness burns.
To achieve best practice in wound care, it is essential to prevent and manage infection,
whilst maintaining a moist environment for the wound healing.

LQD spray-on primary dressing is a new and unique wound dressing containing Chitosan
FH02® with a proven ability to help heal wounds.

Is there a better alternative?

As the burden of chronic wounds continues to grow in the UK, there is a need to embrace
new technologies which can help to simplify wound care, reduce healing times and
improve cost effectiveness. Guest et al (2017) expressed concern about the number of leg
ulcer patients in the UK, currently estimated at 730,000, with only 16% having had
Doppler examination.
A breakthrough in advanced wound care, LQD® Spray is a highly effective spray-on primary
dressing, which can be easily used by patients and relatives during treatment at home,
providing expert medical care without expert supervision.

LQD® Spray is applied as a spray and forms a chitosan-containing semi-permeable membrane
over the wound within two minutes of application that conforms perfectly to the wound
bed.
LQD® Spray is a natural product free from artificial additives or preservatives.

What is chitosan?

Chitosan is refined from chitin, a naturally occurring biopolymer obtained from the outer
skeleton of shellfish.
Chitosan is known to have a number of roles in wound healing. Chitosan is a natural
haemostat, it influences the behaviour of growth factors to stimulate healing, is a natural
antimicrobial, nontoxic, biocompatible and is biodegradable (Dai, Tanaka, Huang and
Hamblin (2011). When applied to open wounds it provides physical protection and
suppresses the secretion and expression of proinflammatory cytokines so contributing to
pain relief.
The chitosan used for LQD® is derived from the shell of the Norwegian Arctic Sea shrimp,
which is processed specifically for medicinal use and is not treated with chemicals, to
produce the ultra-pure active ingredient in LQD®, Chitosan FH02® .

Why use LQD® Spray?

There are a number of advantages to using LQD® Spray as primary wound dressing:
Protection – Applied as a spray, LQD® Spray forms a semi-permeable membrane over the wound,
which perfectly adheres to the wound bed within two minutes of application.
Activates self-healing - The chitosan contained within the LQD® Spray membrane facilitates
wound healing.
Stimulates haemostasis - Chitosan is a haemostat, which helps in natural blood clotting.
Reduces wound bioburden - Chitosan is an effective anti-microbial agent.
Relieves pain - When applied to open wounds chitosan provides physical protection and
suppresses the secretion and expression of proinflammatory cytokines so contributing to
pain relief.

How do I use LQD® Spray?

  1. Prepare and clean the wound
  2. Spray evenly over the wound
